The IN Series is a gem of a small professional performing arts company, or is it a community, producing theater, opera, cabaret, everything, and turning it out like there’s no tomorrow. It was while working with this unstobbable, impossibly prolific company that I first encountered zarzuela, Neruda, Cervantes, Mozart and so many other artists, works and genres that have become a part of me.
This Spring (2010) I’ll be directing their new original production, ‘SWING TIME’...so new, and so original, we haven’t even written it yet!
Watch this space as the script develops. Guaranteed: 1940’s music from standards to surprises, 1940’s America, as richly layered and contradictory as we can make it... ‘We’ begins with me and longtime collaborator Bari Biern, and is sure to branch out to eventually include a fantastic cast and design team.
I was so happy to return to DC and find the IN series producing this madcap production of Cosi Fan Tutte, in true Inseries style, with a phenomenal book by director Nick Olcott setting it in flapper Hollywood and granting audiences unprecedented access to this masterwork....added bonus: it stars Terry Eberhardt (right) who played Figaro when I directed The Marriage of Figaro (Version Vegas) with the IN Series in 2000 and 2006.
